“Behold the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world.” Jn 1:29b
▶I remember a man on his deathbed who wanted to be saved.
He said himself that if he were to die that he would go to hell.
After sharing the gospel with him and showing him how simple salvation was,
he refused to pray.
He would readily admit to me that he was a sinner, going to hell.
But he refused to pray and ask God to forgive him.
He just couldn't bring himself to admit to God that he was a lost sinner
and ask God to save him.
He WOULD NOT tell God that he knew he was lost and repent.
He wanted me to pray for him and talk about it on the next day.
And that night he died, knowing that he was not saved.
▶People want to hear about heaven
and they want to hear about the possibility of not going to hell.
People will admit to being sinners.
But men seem to refuse the truth that none of us deserves heaven.
We all are sinners and deserve nothing but hell for all eternity.
“Tell me about heaven, not about the lamb.”
That is what they are saying.
“Don’t tell me about the need of blood sacrifice to pay for my sins.
Don’t tell me about my guilt.
Don’t tell me about how I don’t deserve to go to heaven.
Don’t ask me to repent. But tell me how to get out of hell.
Let me bypass humbling myself before God
and admitting my own guilt for the death of His precious Son on the cross.
I don’t want the guilt, just the forgiveness.”
▶Without that sacrifice there is no way to heaven.
That sacrifice for your sins and mine.
That innocent life given a ransom for yours and mine.
The innocent dying for the guilty.
Oh, praise be to God for that precious Lamb of God.
Praise God for the shed Blood of Jesus Christ.
Except the blood be applied,
there is no entrance into that eternal home of the blessed.
Let us be more and more committed to crying aloud
with all the love that is in our hearts…
“Behold the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world.”
…John the Baptist lived his whole life to deliver this message from God.
What are we living for? What are we doing with this message?

▶It says a great deal more than many people realize.
(1) It declares the unrighteousness and guilt of all
that are not born again in that it tells of the need of sacrifice.
In accepting this sacrifice a person must first acknowledge their need
of forgiveness and thereby acknowledging their own guilt.
(2) It also declares to the world that Jesus Christ is that promised Lamb
without spot and blemish.
It thereby (3) declares the sinless perfection of our Saviour.
And it also (4) tells us that His Sacrifice is the only way to have our sin taken out of the way.
The precious blood of Jesus Christ,
as a Lamb without spot or blemish. The innocent died for the guilty.
Look at the one in our verse who spoke these words.
John the Baptist had lived his whole life for this moment.
It was not long after this that he was be-headed in Herod’s dungeon.
He came to announce the arrival of God’s precious Lamb.
Have we been sounding forth the call that the Lamb has been slain for one and all?
Are we carrying the news to a lost and dying world?
I know that not everyone has been called to preach.
Not everyone has the gift of expounding scripture.
Not everyone is a teacher. But all that are saved can be a witness.
All that we can witness in truth is that which we have learned of Him.
It doesn't have to be a great and super-spiritual oration to get the message out.
It only needs to be simple truth. That is what the world needs.
And that is what offends the world.
